VICTIM HISTORY

51 year old Edward “Eddie” Silotto was a father of three children and a grandfather to seven. Social Media posts of photos show a man with kind eyes - the heartbreaking written memories give a glimpse into the man who loved his family and lived life to the fullest.

Eddie still had a lot of life to live but on February 23rd, 2021, Eddie’s life was cut short by an unknown individual.

CASE DETAILS

On the night of February 23rd, 2021, Eddie Silotto was walking along US Highway 36 near State Road 71 when a truck hit him. The driver fled and left 51 year old Eddie for dead on the side of the road. Silotto was air lifted from the scene to Carle Hospital in Champaign Illinois, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The truck is described as:

  • Dark-colored Ford - possibly dark blue

  • Extended cab

  • One-ton

  • Dual rear wheels

  • Red snowplow mounted on front and containing the words “The Boss"

  • May have been construction materials in the back

Below is a video released by Vermillion County Indiana Sheriff. The video shows the vehicle that is suspected in the hit and run death of Eddie Silotto. Additional still photos are shown below.

PATH OF TRAVEL

Per Vermillion County Sheriff:

  1. Eddie Silotto was struck as he was walking in an area south of Dana, Indiana. Eddie was walking Eastbound along US 65 from State Road 71. Eddie was walking near Nutrien Ag Solutions coming from St Bernice, Indiana.

  2. Both Eddie AND the vehicle suspected of striking him were seen on multiple surveillance videos. The vehicle was seen driving East from the Illinois state line  on Highway 36 within minutes of Eddie being seen walking in the area.

  3. Direction of travel of the suspected vehicle:

  4. The vehicle was seen travelling East on Hwy 36 from State Road 71

  5. The vehicle turned North on State Road 71

  6. The vehicle the turned East on County Road 500 south and passed through Montezuma and headed to Rockville

  7. The vehicle passed through Rockville and then turned South on US Hwy 41

Based on Sheriff description, the below photo gives an approximate path of travel by the suspected vehicle. The red ambulance notes the approximate area where Eddie Silotto was struck.
