CIRCUMSTANCES

Sherrie is originally from Augusta, Georgia but had been living in Las Vegas for numerous years. In the summer of 2018, Sherrie and her companion, Sarah Benge, relocated from Las Vegas to Augusta, Georgia.

Sherrie’s companion, Sarah Benge is a Caucasian male to female transgender, and approximately 35 years old. It is unknown if Sara has had a legal name change, so may also go by her male name of Jeremiah. (Sarah’s photos can be seen at the bottom of this entry)

In the Fall of the 2018, Sherrie had voiced to her family that the transition to Augusta was not going well for she and Sarah and they would both be returning to Las Vegas. This is that last timeframe that Sherrie’s family had heard from Sherrie.

Sherrie’s companion, Sarah Benge had been in communication with a long time friend via social media during this time period. Sara’s friend confirmed that the both Sherrie and Sara were going to relocate back to Las Vegas. Sarah told the friend that things in Augusta were not going well and that a local church was going to provide bus tickets to Las Vegas. The last message Sarah’s friend received from her was in early January of 2019. The message was a “chain message” of an image that said, “Happy New Year.” Sarah’s friend also received the same message from Sherrie’s social media account. It is unknown if they were sent by Sherrie and Sarah or if someone was in their accounts. This is the last known social activity of Sherrie, as well as, Sarah.

It is unknown at that point, where Sarah and Sherrie were at - Augusta or Las Vegas or somewhere still in transit to Las Vegas.

It has yet to be confirmed if the two of them ever made it to Las Vegas. There has not been any activity on Sherrie Andrade’s social media accounts. Family and friends find this extremely concerning because Sherrie is a very social person. She loves social media, the constant socilialization and the attention that derives from interacting online.

Although Sarah’s associates state that it isn’t unlike Sara to “go off the grid,” it is very unlike Sherrie to not be connected with her social circle of friends, or reach out to her family.

A police report was filed with the Las Vegas police as that is where family and friends were told Sherrie was headed. The news in Las Vegas aired Sherrie’s story and flyers have been electronically distributed to homeless shelters in the Las Vegas area. Morgues in the Las Vegas and Augusta, Georgia have been checked.

Sherrie has an entry in NamUs but at this time, the entry has been restricted from public view.

UPDATE February 13th, 2020

According to conversation with the Nevada NamUs Regional Program Director, Sherrie’s NamUs entry has NOT been approved by Law Enforcement because they have now closed her case. Her entry sat in a restricted status since entering it in NamUs just days after her mother filed a missing persons report.

The entry was never approved by Law Enforcement - in fact, when Sherrie’s mother asked the Detective why it was still in restricted status, the Detective denied ever knowing an entry was pending. A week and a half later, we are told her case is closed.

I contacted the Missing Persons Department with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police and they confirmed that Sherrie’s case was indeed closed. Their reasoning is that they have “extinguished all leads.” They have checked jails and hospitals and have found nothing. Although they did state she is still listed as missing in NCIC - unfortunately, after 60 days since the missing persons report was filed, they are no longer actively working on her case.

It was also stated that they do not consider Sherrie endangered due to her Down Syndrome diagnosis because she has been living on her own. This is not acceptable. Although, she has not lived at home or been under supportive services, she has not lived entirely on her own - someone has always lived with her. She is at risk due to mental health issues that cause emotional instability and her reasoning can be affected when assessing situations or people she may encounter.

We were told that Sherrie is an adult and doesn’t have to contact anyone if she chooses not to. While we agree with that to an extent - it is concerning when a person radically changes from their normal behavior to suddenly losing contact with all of their close life-long friends or family. This is unusual for Sherrie who thrives on the interaction and attention from friends.

We are not done here.

Las Vegas Police may have given up on Sherrie, but we have not. Additional steps are being taken to get to the bottom of Sherrie’s disappearance. —— Room One Twenty One
