CIRCUMSTANCES

  • Kevin Hawkins is a homeless male who was well known and well liked around the Spencer, Indiana area. Kevin has some cognitive issues and is non-threatening. Kevin would frequently go into town and local merchants would often provide him with food or allow him to sit in their establishment.

  • At the time of his disappearance, Kevin was in the approval process for housing.

  • Kevin had a small homeless campsite along the railroad tracks near the White River where he routinely stayed and kept his belongings. Although he was homeless, it is very uncharacteristic of him to disappear and not have regular contact with his family. Kevin’s family would visit his campsite every few weeks and bring him supplies.

  • July 10th, 2018, two days before his 57th birthday, Kevin made his routine trip to town and visited with family members and asked to borrow some money. Kevin’s family helped him out and also informed him someone would stop by his campsite per usual within the next few days. This would be the last time Kevin’s family saw him.

  • On Kevin’s birthday, July 12th, 2018, a family member stopped by his campsite along the White River to bring him supplies, but he was not there. Two to three days later, his family returned to his campsite and he was still not there and the supplies they previously brought were left untouched.

  • Kevin’s family continued to return to the campsite, and other than what may have been disturbed by wildlife, everything remained intact and the supplies remained untouched.

  • Within the timeframe of his disappearance, Kevin had spent a few days at the home of an acquaintance who lived approximately two miles from Kevin’s camp along the river. That individual agreed that Kevin had been at his home but denies any knowledge of his whereabouts.
